"Maxxis Buckshots installed on Jenny's XJ"
October 16, 2009 by Mike StrawbridgeJenny's lift was completed today by installing her 31 x 10.5 x 15 Maxxis
Buckshot Mudders. These tires are available from 4wd Jeep Wheels & Tires
She also got new steel rims so they all went together like Legos
.
The first step was to install new valve stems in the new wheels. A little dishwashing detergent allowed the to slide in easily. Next the tires beads were coated with soapy water to aid in mounting them on the rims.
Next the tire is wrapped around the rim using my manual tire changer.
The valve stem core was removed to seat the beads and then reinstalled.
Next, the each tire is inflated to the proper pressure.
Then the weights were added to balance them. Two of the tires did not need any weights and the other two used only 1.5 oz of lead. We put the two with no weights on the front.
The wheels and tires were then mounted on Jenny's XJ.
And the lugs were torqued to specs.
XJ Princess now looks like she is ready for the trails!
We did a quick road test and there was no shake and very minimal noise from the aggressive tread. On the way back we made a quick pass on the trail behind my barn and I was very pleased with the traction of the fully inflated tires. I like this tread pattern well. I look forward to seeing how they do aired down.
